Candlemas

Candlemas

This was a participatory art project, held at The Newton Dee village (Rudolf Steiner ) in Aberdeen on February 2002.

Visitors were invited to make origami pots.  The first person was asked to make a small origami pot and place acouple of seeds of wheatinside it.  The second participant wrapped the pot within a bigger origami pot.  So the pot got bigger with subsequent participants.

At the conclusion of the event,  the origami pots, containing the wheat seeds, were buried in Mr Glenni’s field, (who had providedwheat).

To support this I exhibited art representing Candlemas.

This was part of a Japan 2001 nationwide series of events.

There is a well known Candlemas verse:-

If Candlemas day be dry and fair
The half o’winter’s come and hair
If Candlemas day be wet and foul
The half o’winter was gone at Your
