Farwell to our Pinetrees
Farewell to Our Pine Trees-Sky
Watercolour, pine pigment and dyed string on stressed Washi Paper
(100cm X 180cm)
…16 years after exhibiting my pine trees “KIZUNA” I found that (our) pine trees had died naturally.
This was a great shock to me.
This year I decided to memorialise Janet and my pine trees through my art.
She sent me pine needles that she collected near her, to which I added pine needles from our house near Hampstead.
I boiled some green pine needles and branches to make a dye. I used this dye to make threads, some I roasted and crushed to make pigment.
I often use natural material.
Some of my works were left in the wheat fields or burnt in the farmers land or berried in the rice field after the exhibitions.
These memories will stay with me forever.
